Manufactured from 1896 to 1898. The rifle has standard receiver markings, a rear sight with graduations from 7-18 and a brass muzzle cover. The full length stock has a hand guard, two barrel bonds, sling swivels on the buttstock and rear barrel band, stacking swivel on the front barrel band, a circled script "P" in the grip area, a "JSA/1896" cartouche on the wrist and a trapdoor buttplate. The U.S. bayonet is dated 1895 and has a metal scabbard.
