Two Polearms

1) This 18th century spontoon is of the design used by the French in North America. The forged iron head measures 12 1/2 inches. Has a varnished 72 inch round wooden shaft. 2) This halberd is of the design used by the American Colonies circa 17th and 18th centuries. The forged steel head is composed of 2-pieces hammer welded together. Measures 18 inches with a 53 inch round wooden shaft. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Condition1) Fair, there is a brown patina overall with moderate pitting and some oxidation. The replacement shaft is good. 2) Good, there are some small areas of moderate pitting with a bright cleaned appearance overall. There is a large section of the socket that has broken off. The replacement shaft is very good with some scattered scratches and dents.
