Description:

Measuring 34 1/2 inches overall, with a 24 1/2 inch blade, showing a choji pattern temper line and fitted with a gilt copper collar. The tang appears to be signed "Sukihiro", with a date that may be "1673". Gilt 4-lobed tsuba, with matching contoured engraved sentoku plates, tachi style hilt and sentoku fittings. The menuki are similar to the military pattern, with a mon consisting of 5 circles connected by spokes to a central circle in place of the mum. The mon is repeated in gold lacquer on a speckled hiramaki background on the saya, along with floral designs and ho-oh birds, and sentoku fittings.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. Some light spotting, chips and handling marks are visible on the blade, with a fair state of polish and defined temper line. Mekugi is absent, with some light wear on the fittings. The lacquer is excellent, with a few light handling marks. A very good sword, in a fine untouched state of preservation.
