Description:

This is a scarce example of a First Issue Model 1908 DWM Military contract Luger pistol that has a hold-open device. The First Issue 1908 Military Luger was the true first German Military contract Luger and all fall into a specific serial number range of 34 to approximately 4828b with this specific example being early (3184) with no letter suffix. The 1908 model is identified by having no date on top of the chamber area, the military proofs are located on the left side of the barrel extension, usually there is no hold-open device and no stock lug on the frame. The front toggle has the DWM logo and as noted the left side has the two crown over script letter Army inspection proofs with the "Imperial Eagle Army" firing proof. It is correctly numbered in the military manner with full serial number on the frame, underside of the barrel with the last two digits on the recoil lug. The various small parts have the correct last two digits of the serial number. The safety and extractor are both correctly marked and it has checkered walnut grips, a nickel plated magazine with a wooden base stamped with the serial number "3184" running lengthwise on the base. This fine example is complete with a brown unmarked leather holster that has the correct early style takedown tool pouch and pin punch on the inside of the flap.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear, thinning on the grip straps, some minor freckling on the left side of the frame flat and very minor age freckling on top of the barrel. The grips are very fine overall with nice distinct checkering. The early rare 1908 era holster is excellent with nice tight stitching and excellent color overall, showing some very minor age cracking to the leather in some areas. As noted this very fine 1908 First Issue Military Luger that has all matching numbers to include the almost never seen original magazine and holster.
