World War II "U.S. Property" Marked Canadian/Inglis Manufactured MKI "BOYS" Antitank Rifle Registered as a Destructive Device

This is a very fine all original registered Canadian version of the British MKI antitank rifle, commonly called a "boys" rifle after its original designer Captain Boys. These were designed in the 1935/36 time frame by Captain Boys in response to the British Ministry's request for a lightweight man-portal rifle capable of defeating the early designed tank armor. It was accepted and introduced into the British Army in 1937 but this concept was overtaken by advancements in tank armor making it somewhat ineffective. It was used successfully by the Finnish Army in 1940 against the early Russian tanks and again in the Far East against the light armored Japanese tanks, gun emplacements and pillboxes. In the post-Korean War era many of these rifles were rebarreled to the .50 BMG for long range sniper use. This rifle is all original and unaltered. It has matching numbers on the receiver, bolt and rear section of the barrel and is still chambered in the original .55 cal boys rifle round. The left front side of the receiver is marked "U.S. PROPERTY/R.B./MK I/INGLIS/1943". These rifles used the same top loading box magazine with the sights off-set to the left, very similar to the Bren gun. It is complete with one original 1937 dated British Anti-Tank rifle training pamphlet, that details its dimensions, characteristics, field stripping, cleaning, loading, firing and correct aim techniques. This rifle is complete with the original front mounted bipod, one original magazine and the original muzzle break. The magazine is an original WWII British issue, however it has a Finnish boxed "SA" on the backside.

ConditionVery fine with 90% of the original wartime finish which has darkened from age, showing only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The bolt body still retains its original factory bright finish and the various parts all show their original British proofmarks. The cheekpiece, front and rear pistol grips still show their original wartime finish, albeit with some handling marks and light pressure dents. This is a really nice all original example of a desirable WWII British/Canadian manufactured, U.S. Army issue Boys Anti-Tank rifle. NOTE: This item is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, as a National Firearms Act (NFA) weapon, which has been classified as a Curios or Relic as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. Before bidding on this item, it is the sole responsibility and obligation of the bidder/Class 3 FFL holder to understand and comply with all the State and Federal transfer laws and restrictions that apply in their current place of residence.

This is an example of a early WWII M1 carbine made by the Quality Hardware company that has been legally converted and registered with the ATF as a fully automatic M2 configuration carbine. The conversion was accomplished by the installation of a GI type (SA marked) M2 trigger housing, M2 internal parts with the correct M2 operating rod and selector switch. The carbine itself as noted is an early WWII version that has the detachable recoil spring housing on the right side of the receiver that has a mix of some GI parts along with a unmarked barrel. During the conversion or arsenal rebuilt process it was also upgraded with the late war parts such as the type three front barrel band/bayonet lug, a round bolt, a milled adjustable rear sight along with the correct M2 pot-belly walnut stock, and four rivet hand guard. It is complete with a GI style canvas sling and one thirty round magazine.

ConditionArsenal refurbished / remanufactured overall with 90% of a gray parkerized finish overall with wear and thinning on the exposed receiver areas. The stock and hand guard are both in good to very good condition with a nice dark brown matching color with numerous light pressure dents, dings and scratches overall from actual field use. The receiver has been demilitarized by the Army at some point. The welding and re-machining has been nicely done, however the two halves show a slight misalignment and a crack on the left side, however the bolt and operating rod slide both move and function correctly. RIAC recommends having a qualified gunsmith review this firearm before firing.
