This is an excellent example of a Savage Model 1899-H Takedown rifle manufactured circa 1912, the introductory year of the revolutionary 22 HP cartridge. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/patent dates, the left side is marked "SAVAGE HI-PRESSURE STEEL/-MODEL 1899-" and "22 H.P." at the breech. Brass blade front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight. Both sights are marked with Savage patent dates. The upper receiver tang is drilled and tapped for sight mounting. Cartridge counter on the left side of the receiver, cocking indicator on top, blue finish with casehardened lever and mounted with a smooth varnished walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a black checkered hard rubber Savage buttplate.

Excellent. The rifle retains 98% bright original high polish blue finish with some mild muzzle/edge wear and a few minor scratches on the receiver. The lever retains 85% original bright case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood is also excellent with 99% original varnish remaining, showing a few minor dents and handling marks. The markings remain sharp. The action is excellent.
