This is a desirable Model 1898 Krag rifle with some late production features. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" followed by the serial number. The barrel has the late production Model 1901 rear sight with windage adjustment and small peep rear sight aperture. It is fitted with the standard walnut stock and forend with the left side marked with a boxed script "JSA/1898" inspection cartouche with a circled "P" proofmark behind the trigger guard. The buttstock contains the three piece cleaning rod and oiler and fitted with an unmarked Krag leather sling. It is complete with an original Krag bayonet and scabbard. The bayonet remains in its bright polish and is marked "1898" and "U.S." below the cross guard and has a blued scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 70% plus blue finish overall with blue loss and browning on the exposed barrel and barrel bands, with minor blue loss on the left side of the receiver. The stock and handguard are excellent with a nice dark brown original oil finish with minor handling marks on the sides of the butt with a heavier dent on the right side forend. The sling is fair, intact with heavy age cracking overall. The bayonet is also very fine with a nice bright polish blade with 90% of the blue finish on the scabbard. Mechanically fine.
