Description:

This is a early production Model 1899 Krag carbine as manufactured in 1900. The serial number correctly falls into the carbine serial number range (222609-362256). The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL 1899. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 227314". It has the 22 inch barrel fitted with the standard blade front sight, the earlier pattern 1896 rear sight and high hump handguard. The rear sight is marked with a "C" at the top with graduations of 2-6 (200-600) on the side of the base and 7-20, (700-2000 yards) on the face of the slide. The carbine still retains the headless cocking piece and the single barrel band with no sling swivel bar or ring. Mounted with a straight grip stock with the noted handguard. The stock has a steel buttplate with butt trap compartment, (cleaning rod not included). The left side of the stock is stamped with a boxed, "JSA/1899" cartouche and a circled script "P" behind the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the blue finish with brighter blue exposed barrel with the receiver and side plate showing 90% plus of their fading oil quenched colors. The stock and handguard are both excellent with a nice matching color and some very minor light storage marks. The cartouche and proof are clear and sharp. The consignor noted that this carbine was formerly in the Burt Kellerstedt collection.
