Marlin Ballard No. 5 Pacific Single Shot Rifle

Manufactured from 1876 to 1891. The distinctive features of the No. 5 Pacific Rifle include a ramrod mounted under the barrel, double set triggers and a ring shaped lever, all of which this rifle has. The rifle is equipped with German silver blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights. The left side of the receiver is marked "J M MARLIN, NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A./ BALLARD'S. PATENT. NOV. 5, 1861." with the serial number marked on the underside of the receiver. The barrel is not marked with the caliber and it gauges at 40 caliber. Blue barrel with remaining parts casehardened and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

ConditionGood. The barrel has a smooth mottled brown patina. The buttplate has a gray pitted patina. The remaining parts have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is good with some minor age cracks on the stock, and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The set trigger does not set, otherwise the action functions well.
