Description:

This is a nice example of a late WWI German Artillery Luger. The chamber is dated 1917 for year of manufacture with the front toggle marked DWM. The right side of the barrel extension has the three "Crown over Script" proofs next to the "Imperial Eagle" proof with a single "Eagle" firing proof on the left side of the barrel also. The underside of the barrel has the matching serial number and letter suffix over the bore diameter of 8,83. The safety and extractor are correctly marked Gesichert and Geladen respectively. The barrel is fitted with the standard Artillery sights with the fixed front and the correct artillery tangent rear sight graduated from 100-800 meters with both having the very desirable "fine tune" adjustments only found on the later models which was eventually phased out later in production. The magazine is a correct WWI version with the nickel plate magazine body with a wooden base, which is stamped "8327/a". As note this desirable artillery Luger has the original walnut board stock and original/matching attaching iron with the iron stamped on top: "6502/b". The stock is attached to a WWI brown leather holster that is stamped on the underside of the flap: "MAURY & CO./OFFENBACH/1915" with "BAX IV", towards the lower edge. Included with the holster are the original leather attaching straps, the lower leather boot and strap that covers the attaching iron, an original make-shift shoulder strap, with an original 8 inch, unmarked steel cleaning rod with a brass tip. This scarce Luger has the rust blued metal finish with straw colored small parts with checkered walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear showing general light thinning overall from use and handling. The various small parts show 70% of their straw colors overall. The grips are also very fine with distinct checkering overall with handling marks and minor pressure dents in a few places, with upper front edge of the right grip broken off. The stock iron showing 80% of its original blue finish with the stock having an old extra coat of varnish overall, with some minor handling marks. The holster is fine with a nice medium brown color overall with small scuffs and handling marks with tight stitching and clear distinct markings. Mechanically excellent.
