The front end of the barrel is marked: "R/Ordnance Corps Shell & Flame" insignia, over the date "8-18". The "Shell & Flame" insignia is stamped on the left side of the receiver rail and on the top of the bolt handle. The provisional "Eagle Head" Ordnance inspection mark is stamped in two places on the top of the receiver rail, on the underside of the stock in front and behind the trigger guard. The "R" (Remington) identification mark is stamped on the various visible parts to include the tip of the forend tip of the stock. The Model 1917 Rifle was the primary rifle issued to the American Expeditionary Force in France during WWI. Nearly all of the Model 1917 Rifles were overhauled following WWI or early in WWII. Original. Model 1917 Rifles are desirable WWI rifles and a primary piece in any martial arms collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall with high spot wear and blue loss on the bolt body from cycling the action. The buttplate has shows some minor oxidation on the heel and toe of the buttplate. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition overall with a nice medium brown color overall with light minor handling marks, and pressure dings on the left side of the stock.
