Manufactured in 1879, this is a Third Model with the dust cover guide rail integrally machined to the receiver. Blade front sight and adjustable folding rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates and "CAL 45-60" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876" flanked by fancy brackets, the serial number is on the lower tang and the cartridge elevator is marked "45-60". Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with steel end cap and crescent buttplate with compartment containing a five piece cleaning rod.
Very good. The barrel and magazine tube have a smooth mottled brown patina. The lever and buttplate have a smooth mottled gray patina. The receiver retains 20% thin original blue finish mixed with smooth mottled brown patina. The wood is also very good with several small gouges near the butt and overall some minor dents and dings. There are a few small minor cracks and chips on the wrist. The cartridge elevator is out of time and hangs up when cycling the action. The markings are clear.
