Description:

Manufactured in 1890. The 4,000 cavalry Single Action revolvers manufactured by Colt for the government contracts signed on November 12, 1889 and September 19, 1890 were the last Single Action revolvers purchased by the U.S. Army. This revolver was sub-inspected by Rinaldo A. Carr (R.A.C.) and inspected by Captain Stanhope E. Blunt (S.E.B). The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address and the three-line, three-patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". The sub-inspection mark "R.A.C" is stamped on the underside of the barrel, on the bottom of the frame above the serial number, on the side of the cylinder and on the right heel of grip. "P" proofmarks are stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the sub-inspection mark and on the side of the cylinder. "K" Colt inspection marks are stamped on the trigger guard, back strap, underside of the barrel behind the ejector housing stud and on the front of the ejector housing. "O" is stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. The revolver has the second style oval ejector rod head introduced at about serial number 113,000, a cavalry type hammer with bordered elongated knurling on the spur and a cone-shaped firing pin. The complete matching serial number is stamped on the frame, trigger guard and back strap, with the partial serial number "2836" on the barrel under the ejector housing and on the cylinder. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "1066". The frame and hammer are casehardened with blue remaining parts. Fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip with "1890" above a boxed "SEB" cartouche on the left side, a boxed "RAC" on the right side and a small "R.A.C." on the bottom of the left side.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 99% of the original blue and color casehardened finish showing some minor high point wear along with some edge wear and scratches on the cylinder. The feathered polishing marks are very evident on either side of the front sight blade and on the right side of the barrel above the ejector housing stud. The case colors are vivid with some fading to a smooth silver gray. Almost all of the bright niter blue finish remains on the screw heads and trigger. The grip is also excellent with some minor pressure dents and dings. The 1 in 1890 is faint and the remaining cartouches are clear. The markings are clear, (slightly faded on the frame). The action is excellent. This is a stunning example of a late production Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army in almost the same condition as when it left the Colt factory 123 years ago and would be very difficult to improve on.
