Description:

This is an exceptional example of 1 of the only approximately 1,000 Mass Arms Wesson & Leavitt Belt revolvers manufactured circa 1850-1851. This is a scaled down version of Massachusetts Arms Dragoon Model revolver and was also referred to as the "Pocket Model". The top strap is marked "MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS", the lock is marked "WESSON'S & LEAVITT'S PATENT" and the rear cylinder face is marked "LEAVITTS PATENT APRIL 29, 1837". The recoil shield is stamped "152" and the rotating hand assembly has the 1849 patent date. The lock, frame and hammer are broad floral scroll engraved and the cylinder is etched with floral designs and a stand of arms. Blade front sight and notch rear sight, 6 round cylinder, silver-plated back strap, casehardened frame, top strap and cylinder pin and blue remaining parts. Fitted with smooth two-piece varnished walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus bright original blue finish on the barrel and cylinder. The casehardened hammer is a mix of dark and gray patina. The lock retains 90% original casehardened finish. The back strap and trigger guard retains 97% original silver plating which has darkened with age and shows some blistering. The remaining parts retain 98% original bright case colors. The grips are also excellent with 99% original varnish remaining, and showing a few minor dings and handling marks. The etching and markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
