U.S.A." flanked by arrows ahead of the rear sight and "50 EX" on top at the breech. The left rear of the barrel is marked "500 EX" (upsidedown) followed by the British "crown/GP", "crown/V" and the London preliminary black powder proof. The "crown/V" proof is repeated on the upper left front of the receiver and the top rear of the bolt. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-", and the lower tang is marked with the two line 1884/1885 patent dates directly behind the trigger and the serial number behind the lever. The barrel is equipped with a dovetailed blade front sight with an ivory bead and two folding leaf Winchester Express rear sporting sight. Blue barrel, bolt and half magazine, and casehardened remaining parts. Mounted with a smooth nicely figured walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel shotgun buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, 50/110 caliber, round barrel, plain trigger, 1/2 magazine, shotgun butt, that it was received in the warehouse on December 12, 1892 and shipped out of the warehouse to order number 9001 on December 14, 1892.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 95% plus of the original blue showing some very minor muzzle wear and several insignificant scratches on the right side. The remaining parts retain 90% original case colors with a smooth gray/silver gray patina on the balance. The buttplate has a smooth brownish patina. The bolt retains nearly all of the high polish blue finish and the blue on the loading gate has faded to a plum patina. The stock and forearm are excellent with nearly all of the original oil finish with a repair on the upper left wrist and overall a few minor dents and dings. All of the markings are crisp. This is an excellent example of a Winchester Model 1886 Sporting Rifle chambered for the .50-110 Express Cartridge with very desirable casehardened receiver.
