Description:

Manufactured in 1904 and subsequently factory reworked. This rifle was sent back to the Winchester factory in 1952 and was converted to a 218 Bee caliber. The rifle comes with a copy of a letter from Lou J. Eppinger, Inc dated June 17, 1952 advising an individual of an estimate from Winchester on work and a copy of an invoice from Winchester dated July 30, 1952 detailing work done and the cost to do it. The work included installing a 24 inch tapered 218 Bee barrel, new breech bolt, carrier, left and right cartridge guides and hammer, fit new Lyman receiver sight and install a new blank in the rear sight slot, and refinish the balance of the metal parts. In 1952 the grand total for all this factory work was a whooping $76.53. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the proof steel, model, trade mark and caliber information, the two-line address is marked on the opposite, the Winchester oval proof is on the top of the barrel and receiver at the breech, three-line tang marking and the serial number is on the underside of the receiver. Hooded ramped blade front sight, two leaf folding rear sight and a Lyman receiver mounted peep sight. Blue finish, half magazine tube and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as factory refinished and modified, see above, with 98% of the blue finish remaining, showing some minor wear on top of the barrel behind the rear sight, some minor handling marks and a small amount of very minor scattered spotting. The wood is excellent with a few minor dings and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
