Manufactured in 1962, this is a Colt 38 Super Government Model upgraded for competition shooting with the scarce 38 AMU cartridge. Originally developed by the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, the 38 AMU is a 38 Special derivative, with a semi-rim better suited for feeding through a single stack magazine and an extended case wall for use with semi-wadcutter bullets. Patridge blade front sight and Bo-Mar adjustable rear sight, with the former mounted on an extension arm for increased sight radius (approximately 8 1/2 inches), the caliber marking and Rampant Colt on the left side, and the one-line Hartford address on the right. The top of the chamber is marked "COLT .38 AMU", with a "COLT .38 SPEC." marked magazine, thin serrated hammer, shoe-equipped trigger, arched serrated mainspring housing, stippled front strap and checkered grips.
