Manufactured in 1897, the top of barrel of this rifle is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "38-56 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-" and the two patent dates are marked on the lower tang directly behind the trigger and the serial number at the end. It has a German silver blade front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight, blue barrel and full length magazine, casehardened remaining parts, and is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel forend cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Fine. The rifle retains 50% plus of the thinned blue finish with some high edge wear and minor scratches/marks. The finish on the magazine tube has mostly thinned to a brown patina. There are traces of case colors on the other components which otherwise have a light gray patina with some spotting, and nearly all the fiery case colors remain on the left side of the hammer. The markings are all clear, and the action is excellent. The wood is very good with glossy varnish retained and only some minor scratches and slight dings.
