Description:

This flintlock has a concave rib marked "LE PAGE A PARIS" between two foliate motifs in gold fill. The right side of the barrel is marked "C.24", and the barrel tang is marked "No. 13". The lock plates have "LE PAGE/*A PARIS*" surrounded by light border designs. The Le Page firm was known for their quality and accuracy. The firm held titles as royal gunmakers throughout many governmental changes and produced many hunting rifles, fowling pieces, and hand guns along with spectacular presentation pieces for the French kings, Napoleon, and later presidents including fancy double barreled rifles. The rib has a German silver blade front sight and a stud is on the left side just over an inch back from the muzzle. It is fitted on a half stock with checkering on the wrist and forend, "duckbill" carving on the bottom of the butt, a raised cheek piece with carved accent, sling swivels, and a casehardened buttplate with "JM" monogram. Most of the other components also have a casehardened finish aside from the barrels which have a blue finish with pattern weld style design. It includes a ramrod with flared brass tip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains 85% of the original blue finish with visible patterns and 97% plus of the rich case colors. The frizzen springs remain bright and all or nearly all of the gold fill remains on the rib. The barrel has several mild scratches. The stock is very good with sharp checkering, detailed carving, and some minor scrapes and dings. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptional example of intricate Parisian craftsmanship!
