Both swords are in the style of 1820-era American Officer's swords with a straight single fuller blade, ball-accented knuckle guard and counterguard, and a ribbed and serrated bone grip. 1) Artillery Officer Sword 38 1/4 inches overall with a 32 3/4 inch blade decorated with 16 1/4 inch panels of niter blue and martial scroll engraving with gold fill. Silver finished brass hilt with a "pillow" shaped pommel. With a brown leather scabbard. 2) Officer Style Sword 36 3/4 inches overall with a 30 1/8 inch blade, steel hilt and an "urn" shaped pommel.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good, with light dings and a mixed gray patina on the blade, 40% of the original niter blue and gold, 30% of the well aged silver on the hilt, and mild handling marks overall. The scabbard is fair with parts absent. 2) Good. The blade shows a mixed gray patina overall with a significant number of dings on the upper third of the edge and scattered pitting. A similar patina is present on the hilt with a loose ferrule and minor chips of the finely colored grip.
