Howdah pistols over various designs were carried by hunters as secondary arms for defense against wild animals while game hunting. In general, howdah pistols are large caliber handguns and many have two or more barrels. These hand guns each have damascus barrels with varied twist patterns, scroll engraving on the lock plates, hammers and trigger guards, animal faces on the hammers and initial shields on the upper wrist. The concave ribs are marked "Westley Richards" in script as are the lock plates. The barrels are approximately 12 bore and each has a brass bead front sight at the front of the rib. Each also features double triggers, hammer safeties, a swivel ramrod and is fitted with a wedge fastened bag shaped stock with checkered grip area and a horn forend piece.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrels have a bright polished appearance with fine visible damascus pattern while the remaining components have a bright finish that resembles coin or nickel. There are some light scratches and slight spotting overall. The wood is very fine with some minor scratches and small dings. Mechanically excellent with clear engraving and markings.
