A factory engraved, nickel-plated, Colt Single Action Revolver engraved by Master Engraver Wilbur Glahn. The Colt factory letter that accompanies the revolver states that it was shipped from Colt to Albert Steinfeld and Company in Tucson, Arizona, on July 7, 1926. The letter states that the revolver had a nickel plated finish and a 5 1/2-inch barrel. Engraving is listed as level "C" in the factory letter but this appears to be a transcription error on the part of the archivist. The engraving coverage is approximately 25% of the revolver and appears to be Colt's Grade "A" engraving. The stocks are listed as rubber but were subsequently replaced with pearl stocks decorated with a hand-carved buffalo on the right side. The revolver features exquisitely executed scroll pattern engraving on a punch-dot background. Wilbur Glahn's signature "V" is engraved on the back strap just behind the hammer. The caliber, "45 COLT", is located in a rectangular panel on the scroll flourish on the left side of the barrel. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line, Hartford, address. The two-line/three-date patent marking and the Rampant Colt trademark are in a panel on the left side of the frame. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "3" above the Colt "V/P" proof mark. The serial number, "349148", is located on the frame in front of the trigger guard. Colt records show approximately 450 Single Action Army Revolvers were factory engraved between 1922 and 1940. Documented factory engraved revolvers such as this one are extremely rare.
