Description:

According to the included documentation, this commercial revolver, which is very similar to the Government Pattern Mk. III, is the shortest barreled variant known to date. It was previously in the James F. Hallam Collection (Vice President of the Historical Breechloading Small Arms Association among other British firearms organization positions). The martial version of this revolver was the first official center fire revolver adopted by the British War Department. The top of the top strap is marked "ADAMS'S PATENT SMALL ARMS Co" with "391 STRAND LONDON" on the top flat of the short 3 1/2 inch barrel. The serial number "8236" is marked on the cylinder pin, cylinder face, hammer slot, right side of the frame after the "ADAMS'S PATENT No" marking, trigger, and top of the grip. It also has the John Adams monogram trademark on the lower right side of the frame and various British proofs. It is equipped with blade front and notch rear sights, an ejector with serrated round knob, a lanyard loop stud on the butt, and a once piece checkered walnut grip. It comes in a fitted oak case with green felt lined interior and an Adams Patent Small Arms Company label with instructions adhered to the inside of the lid.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 50% plus of the original blue finish with a mottled brown patina on the balance. The hammer is mostly bright. There are patches of oxidation, some minor edge wear, and scattered minor marks and scratches. The grip is also fine with mostly crisp checkering, a few minor dings, and some superficial scratches. Mechanically fine with most markings clear. The case is very good with numerous minor scratches along with some repairs and residue on the exterior and some stains and minor tears on the interior. The interior label is fine. Overall, a fine example of an important revolver in British firearms history.
