This large bore rifle is built on a Mauser action and was done by famed English gunmaker George Gibbs. Tracing it linage back to 1830, the current firm of George Gibbs Ltd. continues to manufacture high quality, impressive and innovated firearms for the modern world. It was in the 20th century when Gibbs designed the .256 Gibbs Magnum and .505 Gibbs Magnum cartridges that the firm forever become synonymous with first class firearms. This rifle is cambered in .505 and according to the consignor, the rifle is one of 25 manufactured circa 1900. The barrel is signed "GEORGE GIBBS, BRISTOL & 35 SAVILE ROW, LONDON W." ahead of the rear sight, "505" on top at the breech and the serial number on the right side at the breech. The barrel is fitted with a raised white bead front sight featuring a fold-down sight protector and a three leaf express rear sight (two folding leafs graduated 200 and 300 respectively and one standing). The Mauser receiver is equipped with a Dialytan 4x scope on a side mount. The top of the receiver ring is matted with a "crown/v" proof on the left side and the serial number on the right side. An additional "crown/v" proof is found on the bolt handle. The serial number is also found on the underside of the trigger guard. Sling eyelets are mounted on the barrel and buttstock. The pistol grip features multi-point checkering on the forearm and grip area, a casehardened steel grip cap, a straight comb, and a solid buttpad. The full length case is lined in brown felt and a Cassel custom fit case label is attached on the inside of lid. With the rifle are 8 brass .505 caliber casings and a package of muzzleloader magnum sabot.

Fine. The rifle retains 85% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The stock is very good with some minor dings and scratches with blemishes in the checkering and a small hairline stress crack behind the receiver. Mechanically excellent. The scope retains 95% original blue finish and has clear optics. The case is good with some damage to the canvas cover and missing leather straps.
