The Model 21 was Winchester's finest effort with regard to quality, reliability and strength. Despite being offered as a production gun, they were in fact hand built custom made shotguns. Almost each Model 21 built has a personality of its own because each is slightly different in regards to chokes, barrel lengths, stock dimensions and embellishments. The Model 21 was introduced in 1931 and the Tournament Grade Model 21's were only made in 1933 and 1934. This shotgun features a concave matte solid rib with high visibility white bead sight at the front and silver bead in the center. It is chambered 2 3/4 inch with an ejector and choked Full/Full. The left barrel is marked with the two-line Made in U.S.A, address and patent pending markings while the right barrel is marked "MODEL 21-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" and "12 GAUGE". The underside of the barrels has the choke markings, proofs and the matching serial number. The bottom of the receiver is marked "TOURNAMENT". The water table has the patent dates and additional model, made in U.S.A. and address markings. All visible serial numbers match. It has a single selective trigger, manual tang mounted safety and mounted with fancy American black walnut checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with red Winchester recoil pad. It is complete with a hard leather takedown case with leather corner protectors, leather carrying handle, cardinal red lining with Winchester label and a 28 inch barrel set with matching serial number, choked Skeet 1/Skeet 2, red front bead and silver center bead. The included letter confirms the configuration and indicates that the inspection of this set began on December 18, 1934 and was completed two days later. The letter lists the set as "Pitch - Non, Pull - 14 1/4 inch, Drop heel -1 7/8 inch, Drop comb - 1 1/2 inch. Made for Western Cartridge Company.
