Very Rare Kynoch-Schlund Patent Model Double Trigger Revolver

This revolver has several novel designs, both triggers are fully enclosed in the trigger guard and the second integrates a spring loaded latch allowing the revolver to be cocked in single action style without continued finger pressure and released without firing. The primary hammer fires the revolver with lighter pull in single action or can be used independently in double action. It also has a top break "hammerless" (enclosed hammer) design with a thumb-operated latch. It has round blade front and frame notch sights and a checkered one-piece grip. It is marked with "KYNOCH GUN FACTORY ASTON" on top of the barrel, "PATENT MODEL" on the top strap, "618" on the front strap, "CAL 380" on the left side of the frame, and has British proofs throughout. The "A" in Aston appears more like an inverted "V", and the "E" in Model is missing the middle "-". This is commonly seen on multiple known examples. George Kynoch leased the arms factory of William Tranter in 1885 following the latter's retirement. His associate and works manager Henry A. Schlund registered several patents that are incorporated into the Patent Model designs. Prior to leasing the Tranter factory, Kynoch had established a successful ammunition and metal goods factory known as the Lion Works. His business supplied the British and Turkish governments and eventually evolved into what is today I.M.I. Kynoch also served as a conservative Member of Parliament and resigned from G. Kynoch & Co. Ltd. In 1888 after disputes with the board and moved to South Africa where he negotiated arms and ammunition contracts with Boer leaders prior to his death in 1891.

ConditionExcellent. The revolver retains 98% of the original nickel plated finish with some light scratches and small nicks. There are some slight cylinder drag lines. The grip is very fine and has crisp checkering with a few small dings/chips. Mechanically excellent with clear markings. This is a very fine example one of only an estimated 600 made.
