Description:

This is an outstanding example of an extremely rare DWM Model 1908 "Bolivian Contract" Luger pistol. These are extremely rare with less than an estimated 200 pistols produced and delivered to the Bolivian Government in 1913. Very few of these pistols survived the Jungle of Bolivia. Stated in Costanzo's book "World of Lugers" on page 195, "To date only 6 are known". This very small contract run falls into the serial number range between; 64400 to 65600 with all know serial number spread over the estimated block of 200 pistols. They were produced using the 1908 Commercial Luger as the basic pistol with some very distinct features found only on these Bolivian contract Lugers. That being they all are without the hold open device, the upper safety area is marked "SEGURO" with the extractor marked "CARGADO" on the left side. Additionally the chamber area, which usually would have a National Crest is instead roll stamped in three lines: "EJERCITO/DE/BOLIVIA", e.g "Army of Bolivia". It has the standard "DWM" logo on the front toggle area. It has the standard "Crown/N" commercial proofs on the left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel, the left side of the breech bolt and front toggle. It is correctly numbered in the commercial manner with the hidden serial numbers, with the full number on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel (below the commercial proof), as well as the underside of the barrel extension and recoil lug, with the last two digits, (49) on the remaining parts. It is fitted with a set of unnumbered checkered walnut grips and has an unmarked Luger magazine with an unmarked wooden base. It is complete with a beautiful unmarked dark brown commercial holster with an unmarked commercial take down tool. This beautiful luger pistol is the only known 1908 Bolivian contract luger in mint condition that is complete with the correct 1908 unmarked commercial luger holster. This wonderful luger has never been to auction before and is fresh to the collector market. The consignor stated that this exceptionally rare pistol has been vetted and approved on the Jan Still Luger forums by the top recognized experts.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the original blue finish with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the muzzle area and side plate hump. The various small parts retain 75% plus of their original straw colors overall. The walnut grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct, checkering on both sides intermixed with some minor/light handling marks on the sides. The commercial leather holster is in fine condition with a nice dark brown even color overall with tight stitching and belt loops with only minor scratches and handling marks in a few areas. Extremely rare 1908 DWM Bolivian Contract Luger pistol. Writer has not seen a finer example!
