Exceptional Colt New Service Double Action Revolver with Holster Attributed Pennsylvania Governor and First Chief of the U.S. Forest Service Gifford Pinchot with Notarized Affidavit from His Great Grandson

This exceptional example of a Colt New Service revolver features blade front and notch rear sights, the two-line address and patent markings on top of the barrel, "NEW SERVICE 45 COLT" on the left, and the Rampant Colt on the frame. It is fitted with a pair of checkered grips with silver Rampant Colt medallions and a lanyard swivel on the butt. The revolve comes with a brown leather Heiser flap holster marked "1435" on the rear. According to the included notarized affidavit from Gifford Pinchot IV, this Colt New Service revolver has been in the Pinchot family since it was first owned by his great grandfather Gifford Pinchot and is one of only six firearms the family has made available to collectors from Pinchots collection through Rock Isand Auction Company; the remaining firearms were donated to the U.S. Forest Service Museum or remain in the family's possession. Pinchot was the first Chief of the United States Forest Service at the beginning of the twentieth century. As a conservationist he advocated what he coined as "conservation ethic". Pinchot also served two terms as the governor of Pennsylvania after being fired by President Taft for criticizing the President's policies. The fallout from his firing helped lead to the split in the Republican Party and the creation of the short lived Progressive Party headed by former president, and Pinchot's friend, Theodore Roosevelt.

ConditionExtremely fine. 95% plus of the original blue finish remains showing some mild surface rust concentrated on the trigger, trigger guard and grip straps along with some light scratches and handling marks. The grips are very fine with a small chip absent from the left side of the butt and crisp checkering. Some minor scuffs and stains are present on the holster which is otherwise good. Mechanically excellent.
