Description:

First introduced in the 1850s, this Third Model Tranter revolver has the common style scroll work and border engraving on the barrel, loading arm, grip cap, and frame. It is marked with the retailer marks "THO.S BLISSET SOUTH CASTLE ST LIVERPOOL" on the top strap, "No 9,191,T." on the right side of the frame, "WK" or "WX" on the front left of the frame, "W TRANTER'S/PATENT" on the trigger group and loading arm, "10" on the right rear of the frame and grip, and "20" on the loading arm, trigger group and cylinder. The double trigger Tranter revolver were an important step in the evolution that led to double action revolvers. It utilizes a two part trigger group: pulling both triggers back at the same time provides double action type firing while pulling just the lower spur rotates the cylinder and pulls back the spurless hammer. A spring mounted safety allows the user to release the hammer without firing. Using this mechanism, the revolver allows for either rapid firing or more precise single shots. It has a dove tailed front and notch rear sights and is fitted with a checkered walnut grip. The included wooden case has a fitted interior that contains a "TRANTER'S/PATENT" marked bullet mold, Thomas Blissett marked tins of lubricating wax and bullets, large Eley's tin of percussion caps with side label indicating they were made for Tranter's double trigger revolvers, oiler, wrench, screwdriver, cleaning rod, and powder flask. The interior of the lid has a "PATENT DOUBLE-TRIGGER AND SAFETY REVOLVER." instructions label.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver retains traces of the original finish with a mixture of gray and brown patina on the balance with some light scratches and bright areas from an abrasive cleaning cloth and some patches of light pitting. The grip is fine with sharp checkering and only some minor scratches. Mechanically fine with clear markings. The case is very fine with some wear typical of storage and cracks/repairs on the exterior and some staining and small tears on the interior. The accessories are all fine or better overall. This is a very good complete set.
