This a very fine post war production M1 Garand rifle as manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1956. The rear of the receiver has the standard four line, Springfield Armory markings over the serial number with the barrel marked "SA-2-56", with the breech end still in the white. It is fitted with the late production Springfield Armory parts with the late production post war sight set. The barrel is fitted with a wide base gas cylinder, high top gas cylinder lock and late four-slot gas plug. It is currently fitted with a GI walnut stock and hand guard set. The stock is marked on the left side with the standard "DOD" cartouche and a single encircled "P" proof in the pistol grip area.
