Description:

The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped to J.P. Lowers & Sons in Denver, Colorado, on May 12, 1885, as part of a shipment of 30 guns of the same type. The included copy of Dave Lanara's article "When In Denver, Get It at Lower's" explains that many Western legends purchased their firearms from Lower's shop and that Lower had been an apprentice in Philadelphia at the age of 13 and became a master gunsmith in just five years. He later moved to Denver and established his own shop. He reportedly counted Samuel Colt, Smith & Wesson, and others amongst his "warm, personal friends." This revolver has the standard sights and markings, including the matching serial numbers, and is fitted with a one piece varnished walnut grip with "1130" marked under the grip strap.

Rating Definition:

Very good as fitted with a much later production replacement cylinder (with Rampant Colt on rear face). The revolver retains traces of the original finish on the barrel and ejector housing with primarily a light gray-brown patina, 40% of the original blue on the grip straps and trigger guard with some brown patina forming, and 30% of the rich case colors on the frame with some spotting. The cylinder retains 98% of the blue finish with some sight rotation marks. The grip is also very good with rough bare patches and small scrapes. Mechanically fine with legible markings.
