Manufactured in 1888. This rifle has the Third Model integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The included factory letter confirms the rifles configuration and that this rifle arrived at the warehouse on August 15,1888, and shipped out on the same day, order number 10427. The serial number was applied on July 16,1888. The top left barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/patent date ahead of the rear sight and "38 WCF." is marked on the top of the barrel at the breech. The bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "38 CAL" in script letters. The upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL. 1873.", and the serial number is stamped in script on the lower tang. It features dovetailed Marble No. 3 blade front and adjustable rear buckhorn sporting sights with a blue finish, a half magazine and a casehardened frame, hammer, lever and buttplate. It is mounted with a smooth oil finished walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate which has an empty compartment for a cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel retains a mottled artificial brown patina. The casehardened frame, hammer and lever has mixed to a smooth gray patina with some minor scratches and dings overall. The brass elevator has a smooth dark patina. The heavily sanded, revarnished wood is good with only a few scratches and filler hole on the left side of the stock. Mechanically fine.
