Description:

Manufactured from 1871 to 1888 with a total production of approximately 10,000. The Rider pistol was a Joseph Rider invention and is one of the most unusual 19th Century pocket pistols and also one of the first handguns to feature a tube magazine. The pistol has a blade front sight and a round hole in the cocking lever for a rear sight. The magazine loads from the muzzle end and holds five cartridges. The top barrel rib has the standard two-line address and patent markings which reads "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y./RIDERS PAT. AUG. 15, 1871". It has an all nickel finish with scroll engraving on a punch dot background on the sides of the frame, geometric patterns on the barrel flats and top of the frame, and additional scroll work and border engraving on the back strap. It is fitted a set of smooth mother of pearl grips. Interestingly, the Remington magazine pistol is one of the few American firearms where engraved examples are more commonly encountered. Also includes is a fine custom wooden case with golden accents.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The pistol retains 80% plus of the original unpolished nickel finish with crisp engraving and legible barrel markings. There is some slight pitting primarily confined to the lower sections as well as some scattered minor blemishes. The magazine tube cap has some exposed brass and there is some brown patina and residue on the trigger. The grips are slightly undersized but remain in very good condition. The case is near new with some slight handling/storage marks. Mechanically excellent.
