Description:

This is one of only an estimated 350 produced by the Springfield Arms Co.; all were produced c.1851. The deeply grooved cylinder has engraving patterns along with "WARNER'S PATENT" and "JAMES WARNER SPRINGFIELD, MASS.", and the frame has floral scroll engraving on each side. It is equipped with a cone front sight and is fitted with smooth walnut grips. The left grip is stamped "89", and the right side of the grip straps is marked "20 d 89". It comes in an attractive hardwood case with unmarked shield and banner, a blue felt lined interior with Robert Jones of Liverpool label, and compartments for the included powder flask with shell design, powder measure, oiler, cleaning rod, and patches.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 90% of the original blue finish. The remaining metal surfaces have a gray patina with some faint traces of case colors. There are some minor marks and scratches including a series of hammer type marks on the butt. The grips are very good with some hairline cracks in the right panel and some dings. Mechanically needs some attention as the trigger does not cook back the hammer. Functional in single action. Considering only 350 were made, it is very rare to find one complete with case and accessories.
