Description:

1) H.V. Allien(sic) & Company Model 1860 Staff & Field Officer's Sword, 36 1/4 inches overall with a 30 inch etched straight blade, engraved "CAPTAIN EUGENE ELLICOTT/1st REGT. U.S.V.ENGINEERS" on the right ricasso. Gilt brass hilt with a folding counter-guard, raised patriotic designs, and a wire wrapped sharkskin grip. With a brass fitted and nickel finished scabbard inscribed "Captain Eugene Ellicott U.S.V. ENGINEERS/Porto(sic) Rico & Cuba 1898" between the suspension bands. 2) Ames Marine Hospital Service Variant Model 1860 Sword, 34 1/8 inches long with a 27 3/4 inch blade etched "J.S. Oakley" on the left and "U.S. Marine Hospital Service" on the right. Gilt brass hilt, with a folding counter-guard, ribbed grip, naval-themed decoration and a nickel finished scabbard.

Rating Definition:

1) Good with some light spotting on the blade, heavier spotting and flaking on the sheath and a fine mix of original gold finish and copper-tinted patina on the brass components. 2) Fair, with heavy pitting and cleaning on the blade, retention lock absent from the guard, wire and covering absent from the grip, throat absent from the scabbard and mild handling marks.
