Exceptional Post-Civil War Civilian Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver

Colt Model 1860 Army revolver manufactured in 1867. The civilian style, "three-screw" frame that lacks the stock attachment cuts in the recoil shields found on U.S. contract M1860 Army revolvers. The revolver does not have the slotted back strap found on military contract revolvers. The barrel, cylinder and back strap have the Colt high polish blue finish. The loading lever, frame and hammer are casehardened with fiery case colors. The brass trigger guard is silver plated and the one-piece, walnut, grip has a varnished, "piano"' finish. The barrel has a nickel-silver front sight blade and the hammer spur has bordered knurling. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend: "-ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-", The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene, "COLTS PATENT No" and. "ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843" roll-engraved along the front edge of the cylinder. "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped in two-lines on the left side of the frame. "44 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The full serial number "164167" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The cylinder is stamped with the partial serial number "4167". All of the visible serial numbers match.

ConditionExcellent. The revolver is all original and retains 95% plus of the original blue and casehardened finish. Nearly all of the high polish blue finish is present on the barrel; wear is limited to a few minor scratches and handling marks The forward half of the cylinder has some finish loss but retains all of the roll-engraved naval scene. The rebated portion of the cylinder has nearly all of the high polish blue finish intact. Only traces of flash pitting are visible on the percussion nipples. The blue finish on the back strap is thin but about 80% present. The loading lever, frame and hammer retain close to 98% of the vivid case colors. The trigger and frame screws have most of the fire blue finish. The brass trigger guard has about 60% of the delicate silver plated finish. The grip is in excellent condition and retains more than 95% of the piano finish. Wear is limited to a scratch in the finish on the right side of the grip and a shallow dent in the lower left side of the grip. The hammer will not hold at half-cock or full-cock. This is an exceptional example of a post Civil War, civilian Colt Model 1860 Army revolver.
