Predating the rise of the Nazi party, the knife of the State Forest Service (Staatsforstdienst) served as a badge of honor and rank, with white grips reserved for senior officials and Foresters. Measuring 17 1/8 inches overall, with a 12 1/4 inch blade bearing the "unarmed squirrel" Eickhorn logo on the left ricasso, etched hunting scenes on each side, and oak leaves on the spine. The hilt is gilt brass, with a scalloped clamshell languet, stag hoof designs on the guard and rear quillion, and a pair of smooth original ivory grip panels with three gilt acorns on each side. Brown leather sheath with gilt finished brass hardware and a brown leather frog with vertical suspension ring.
