Description:

This is a rarely encountered short highly deluxe variation measuring 16 1/2 inches overall with a 10 1/8 inch single edged fullered blade with etched game scenes on each side, vinework in oak leaf pattern on the spine, and the 1935/41 "armed squirrel" Eickhorn logo on the reverse ricasso. Darkened silvered hilt furniture with a deluxe embellished oak leaf decoration on the top grip fitting with an acorn pommel top nut. The cross guard has oak leaf designs in the center portion with the ends having the up and down deer hoofs. The clamshell has the large partridge type bird (Auerhahn) in the design. With a green pebbled leather scabbard which has mounted on the bottom a deluxe fitting showing a large bugling elk stag surrounded with foliage and a fancy finial design at the bottom, and acorn frog stud. The especially attractive one piece stag grip is fitted with the "Antler Head" silver "D/JV" insignia. The Deutscher Jagdverband (DJV, German Hunting Association) was a post-War reformation of the wartime Reichsbundes Deutsche Jaegerschaft, which had been thoroughly infested with Nazis during the 1930s and 1940s. All fittings are plated in genuine silver finish which now display a dark patina in all areas where the original protective lacquer has worn thru. A photocopy of a vintage catalog page featuring Association knives is included for comparison. It shows this same short variation as being an "Ehrenhirschfanger for the Deutsche Jagerschaft in Luxus-Ausfuhrung" which translates to and Honor hunting dagger for the German Hunting Association in Luxury version.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine showing some very light spotting on the excellent blade and mild handling marks overall from light actual use.
