Description:

This Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine was manufactured in 1891 with an integral rail and serrated edge dust cover. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two-line address/King's improvement patent dates, and "44 W.C.F." is at the breech. "44 CAL" is marked on the cartridge elevator. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" flanked by a decorative foliate design, and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The left side of the frame has a "P" inside of a shield that has a single line crossed through it (as in the mark was redacted). It is fitted with a blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards. It has a saddle ring and staple on the left side of the receiver and is mounted on a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate with a compartment for a three-piece cleaning rod (not included).

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The carbine has 25% of the traces of the faded original blue finish with some strong traces in the protected areas and otherwise a mottled brown patina or gray patina. There is some light surface pitting primarily on the frame and some small nicks behind the side plates. The barrel has some brighter spots and a few minor scratches. The wood is fine with some light scratches throughout, a few chips, and several minor pressure marks. Mechanically excellent with clear markings.
