The Heirloom Edition was offered beginning in 1986 and were available with personalized serial numbering. The included factory letter lists this example as "THE HEIRLOOM SPECIAL EDITION PROTOTYPE Colt Officer's ACP Automatic" with custom features including a "Mirror-Brite finish with jeweled barrel, trigger, and hammer", pearl grips, "Ambidextrous thumb safety, Wide grip safety, extended smooth trigger," and a "custom deluxe Mahogany case with French fit Rhumba Red interior". Other features include the commander style hammer and fixed three dot sights. The slide has the standard MKIV/Series 80 markings on the left, "Al DeJohn" in script over "MANAGER, COLT CUSTOM SHOP/1946-1989" on the top, and "OFFICER'S ACP" on the right. The unique serial number "AL DEJOHN No 1" is gold inlaid. The grips have matching golden Colt medallions. The letter indicates it was shipped to Al De John at the Custom Shop on October 29, 1989, and explains that he "conceived and designed" the pistol "for use as the prototype for the Colt Heirloom Special Edition pistols". He retired at the end of that year. The box is numbered to the gun and contains papers including a manual.

Near new. The pistol has only faint handling marks, and the consignor notes indicate that it is unfired. The case is in very good condition with only a few minor dings on the exterior and some marks on the lining. There is a small circular inset on the lid that may have held a medallion. The factory box has some minor storage wear.
