Manufactured in 1897. The top barrel flat is marked: "'-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and "40-82 W.C.F." at the breech. The two-line/two-patent dates are marked on the lower tang behind the trigger with the serial number at the end. Blade front and adjustable notch sights with the upper tang fixed with a adjustable folding peep sight. Blue barrel and full length magazine, with casehardened receiver and remaining parts, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel forend cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
Good. The barrel assembly retains 30% of the original blue finish with a mottled brown patina, with scattered scratches, dings, and light pitting at the muzzle. The markings are clear. The receiver, hammer, and lever retain traces of the case colors with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina and light pitting. The revarnished wood is good with scattered scratches, dings, chips of wood missing from areas around the upper and lower tangs, and an empty sling swivel stud hole. Mechanically excellent.
