Very Fine U.S. Army World War I Smith & Wesson Model 1917 Double Action Revolver

Smith & Wesson Model 1917 Double Action revolver manufactured in early 1917 and stamped with the "GHS" monogram used as a final inspection mark on Smith & Wesson revolvers until April 1918. The pistol has the Smith & Wesson bright polish blue finish with color casehardened trigger, hammer and lanyard swivel. The two-piece walnut grips are oil finished. The butt is roll-stamped "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917" behind the lanyard swivel and "NO./218" in front of it. Smith & Wesson manufactured 163,635 Model 1917 revolvers under government contract between October 1917 and January 1919. These high quality revolvers were used extensively during both WW I and WW II.

ConditionVery fine overall with 90% plus original blue and casehardened finishes. Displays small areas of edge wear, small handling marks, and a small drag line on the cylinder. Grips are also very fine, with good grain, and only minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
