This revolver is pictured on page 58 of the William M. Locke Collection with a different case and accessories. The revolver was manufactured in 1858, and "New York" retailer style floral scroll and geometric engraving patterns with punch dot backgrounds cover more than half of the surfaces (Schuyler, Hartley and Graham is the most likely firm). The top of the barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW Y" with the remaining text covered by the two leaf rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT/U.S." The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap. The partial serial number "7243" is marked on the loading lever, wedge, and cylinder pin. The revolver has the distinctive square cylinder stops and round trigger guard of the Third Model, and it is fitted with a one-piece varnished walnut grip. It has a four screw frame and is cut for a shoulder stock. The revolver is complete in a wooden case with blue velvet lining, a "COLT'S / PATENT" marked dual cavity bullet mold, Eley cap tin and a Dragoon style "COLTS PATENT" marked powder flask with martial designs and triangular carrying rings.

Fine. Traces of the nickel plating remain with the balance mostly bright in appearance with some light spotting and faint pitting. The brass grip straps retain more than half of the silver plating. The grip is very fine with some of the piano varnish worn away and a number of light scrapes and small dings. The action is excellent, and the engraving patterns and most of the markings are crisp. The case is fine with various stains on the interior and some light scratches on the exterior. The accessories are fine.
