Description:

This is a beautiful example of an original 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol with the original walnut stock/leather holster rig as manufactured by the DWM factory. The original combination walnut stock/leather holster is complete with the original metal attaching iron, cheekpiece and leather straps. The overall condition and originality of the pistol itself is exceptional with a nice dark rust blue finish on the metal parts with excellent heat blue finish on the smaller parts. These 1893 Borchardt pistols were the true forerunner of the world famous and historic Luger pistol in that it employed the unique toggling breech mechanism, which was eventually adopted and refined by George Luger. This toggle design was used throughout production of the Luger pistols from 1900 through 1942. The right side of the barrel extension is marked in three lines "SYSTEM BORCHARDT. PATENT./DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN,/BERLIN.", and the top of the toggle mechanism bears the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension all have the early German commercial proofs of a "Crown over B and U" proofs, and the left rear section of the barrel is marked with the full German commercial proofs consisting of the "Crown over B, U, and G" proofs over "172,28". It is fitted with the original checkered walnut grips along with the original varnished border around the checkered center panel of each grip. The original walnut shoulder stock is complete with the original blue attaching iron along with the original black leather holster still attached to the stock with the original leather straps. This wonderful pistol is complete with its original DWM back leather covered storage/carrying case, three original matching spare magazines, one original dummy (wooden) magazine with the brass oiler on the bottom, the wooden cheekpiece, the rare shoulder strap, screwdriver, with tips, a brass cleaning jag, pin punch, small silver oil can and pouch and the small tin of Vaseline as originally issued by the DWM factory.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish overall and only minor edge wear on the pistol itself. The wooden stock and leather holster are also both in excellent condition with 98% blue on the attaching iron and minor handling marks on the stock with the holster showing 98% of its original leather surface with only minor age cracking on the leather with a small scuff mark on the right (exposed) side of the holster. The various accessories are all in very fine plus condition except the leather shoulder strap which is in good condition as it shows use and age cracking. The black leather case is also in good plus condition with 85% of the outer cover remains, with the right hand side of the lid and bottom showing heavier scuffing and water staining on the leather itself, and the side showing some flaking and heavier scratches. The lower corners also show some minor separation. This is an absolutely outstanding set centered on one of the best Borchardt pistols known.
