This is an excellent example of a late production DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine. This fine Luger is complete with its original matching DWM factory walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were an early attempt to produce a lightweight rifle substitute to compete with the various stocked pistols being produced throughout Europe at this time. This forend on these models attaches to a hanger mounted on the front end of the frame, which houses a small accelerator that helps to cycle the longer/heavier 11 3/4 inch barrel. These early Lugers all have the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. They have a blank chamber area with the DWM markings on the front toggle. The primarily serial number (21738) is marked on the frame hanger and underside of the barrel, with the last two digits of the serial number (38) marked on the various small parts to include the forend. It is fitted with the standard checkered walnut grips, with both numbered (38) on the back sides. As noted this late production carbine has the original matching walnut shoulder stock, which is numbered "738" on top of the attaching iron. This pistol is complete with one original magazine that has the tin-plated magazine body and the correct unnumbered wooden base.
