Unique World War II Unnumbered Springfield Armory M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle

This is a very unusual WWII era M1 Garand rifle that has an "unnumbered" Springfield Armory M1 Garand receiver. The rifle has all the standard Springfield Armory receiver markings with no evidence of ever having been serial numbered. The receiver has the heat lot markings of "D28291-17" which was used from mid 1942 through April 1943. The barrel is only marked with "S-A-8-42" with no drawing number of proof marks. The bolt is also unmarked except for a hand stamped "8820" on top behind the bolt head. The operating rod is marked "D35382 3 SA", with the trigger housing marked "D28290-18 SA" which is fitted with a unmarked milled trigger guard. The hammer is stamped "C45008-9 SA" and the safety is marked "SA-11". The barrel is fitted with a narrow base gas cylinder with a late front sight without the cap over the front sight screw. It has the WWII SA locking bar rear sight set. It is fitted with a unmarked (cartouched or proofed ) walnut stock and handguard set. It is complete with a WWI 1918 dated leather sling. This rifle most likely was a production sample made during World War II.

ConditionExcellent with 97% plus of the original gray/green parkerized finish overall with minor finish loss on the receiver rail from hand cycling the action. The stock and handguard set are all in very fine plus condition showing some minor evidence of ordnance refurbishing with no cartouches or proofs. A very unusual WWII era Springfield Armory M1 Garand rifle.
