Rare World War II IBM Factory Presentation M1 Carbine with Presentation Stock Plaque

This is a truly unique example of possibly a one of a kind WWII M1 carbine that was presented to Mr. A.F. McCulloh by IBM Plant #4 in August 1944. In late December 1943, IBM delivered their first actual production model for testing against the Army standard and eventually would be one of eleven US Army contractors that produced M1 Carbines during WWII. By the end of WWII, they had produced approximately 346,500 Carbines for the US Army. This presentation grade carbine has a high polish blue finish overall with a high polish varnished walnut stock and handguard. The right side of the buttstock has a small 1 X 2 inch metal plate inset on the side that reads: "PRESENTED TO/A.F. McCULLOH/BY/IBM PLANT #4/AUGUST 1944/POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y." It is assumed that Mr. McCulloh was a senior executive or plant manager/supervisor that was held in very high esteem by the employees to have received this carbine. It has the standard receiver markings on top of the receiver ring with: "IBM CORP/3961624" stamped on the heel of the receiver under the rear sight. It is fitted with an original barrel that is marked with only "IBM CORP" with no production date or Ordnance proofmark. It is currently fitted with a late production adjustable rear sight, type two barrel band, round bolt marked "AOB", three piece brazed trigger housing marked "O-TX", and "WMB" marked hammer. It is fitted with an original low wood stock and a two rivet handguard. Both are stamped "L-WB" respectively in the sling slot and on the underside of the handguard. It is complete with a green web sling and one 20 round magazine.

ConditionVery fine as presentation upgraded by the IBM factory with 98% of the blue finish remaining overall minor handling wear, and some various areas that show some light rust from improper storage. The stock and handguard are both in near excellent condition with 98% of the varnish, some minor handling marks on the sides, and some minor chipping and crazing of the varnish overall. This is a very rare example of a WWII Presentation IBM Corp M1 Carbine.
