Description:

These two revolvers are spectacularly engraved and gold inlaid in a John Dillinger/FBI theme and were done by Master Engraver Leonard Francolini. The barrel features a gold inlaid Thompson Model 1927 A1 on the left front and the FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. on the right. The right rear has gold inlaid "S&W. .357 MAGNUM" amid floral scroll engraving and flanked by gold inlaid floral vine. The left rear has gold inlaid "SMITH & WESSON" amid floral scroll and punch dot engraving and flanked by gold inlaid floral vine designs. The gold inlaid floral vine designs extend to the ejector shroud and muzzle. The frame has gold inlaid wire border, gold inlaid "S&W" trade mark logo on the left rear, gold inlaid "MADE IN U.S.A." on the lower right front and the Department of Justice seal on the right rear. The top of the back strap features a gold inlaid bust of J. Edgar Hoover with "J EDGAR HOOVER" below the bust in a gold banner and gold bordering above the bust. The cylinder has a gold inlaid border around the flutes, a gold band around the rear and over each cylinder the gold inlaid names "J. EDGAR HOOVER", "MARTIN ZARKOVICH", an East Chicago Detective, "SAMUEL P. COWLEY", an F.B.I. Agent, TIMOTHY O'NEILL", "ANA CUMPANAS", "the Lady in Red" and MELVIN PURVIS", the lead Investigator on the John Dillinger case. The bottom of the trigger guard bow has the gold signature "J Edgar Hoover". The matching serial number is marked on the butt and on the inside of the ejector shroud. The registered number "REG 1951" is marked on the frame. The matching assembly number "7501" is marked on the frame and the crane. The hammer is marked "REG.U.S.PAT.OFF.". Blade front sight with a gold dot, adjustable rear target sight, all blue finish and fitted with a set of smooth ebony grips manufactured by Eagle Grips. The pair come in a beautiful rosewood case with deep relief carved "S&W" and an oak tree motif on the lid, brass hardware and fitted hunter green velvet lining. In the case are two wooden handled screwdrivers, two keys and a wooden handled magnifying glass. Writer believes this to be the finest set of Smith & Wesson Revolvers we have ever offered embellished by this Master Engraver!

Description:

Continuing with the Dillinger/FBI theme, this revolver features the same floral scroll engraving as the "A" revolver. The left front of the barrel has a gold inlaid Thompson Model 1927 A1 machine gun flanked by gold inlaid floral vine patterns and the left rear has gold inlaid "SMITH & WESSON" amid floral scroll engraving and flanked by gold inlaid floral vine. The left front has a gold inlaid Little Bohemia Lodge which is located in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, and was the scene of a famous gunfight John Dillinger and his gang, and Melvin Purvis and the FBI in 1934.The lodge is bordered by gold inlaid floral vine designs. The lower left side has an eagle head/floral vine design and the left rear has a very finely detailed scene of the shootout in front of Biograph theater where John Dillinger was shot and killed. The marquee is bordered with gold inlaid bulbs and all of the markings on the marquee are visible, "COOLED", and the movie title and actors, etc. and the scene of John Dillinger getting shot, witnesses, posters in the theater windows and vehicle parked in front all are very visible. The top of the back strap has a gold inlaid bust of John Dillinger with "JOHN H. DILLINGER in a gold banner below the bust and a gold floral vine design above. The cylinder has the same gold inlaid wire bordering as the "A" gun and The gold inlaid names "JOHN DILLINGER", "BABY FACE NELSON", famous gangster and partner of John Dillinger, "HOMER VAN METER", an associate of Dillingers, "HARRY PEIRPONT", a friend and fellow gangster of Dillingers, "JOHN HAMILTON" and "EVELYN FRECHETTE", a woman whom which Dillinger had a relationship with. The bottom of the trigger guard bow has the gold signature "John Dillinger". The matching serial number is marked on the butt and on the inside of the ejector shroud, the registered number "REG. 3263" is marked on the frame and the matching assembly number "11861" is marked on the frame and crane. Fitted with smooth ebony grips manufactured by Eagle Grips.
