The left side of the receiver is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27. 1851./DEC. 6. 1859.", and the right side is marked "MANUFACTURED BY/ MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS." The serial number is marked on the lower tang. A standard cavalry sling bar and ring are fixed to the left side of the receiver. It has a German silver blade front and notch rear sights, is fitted with a smooth straight grip stock with a slightly curved smooth buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The carbine retains traces of the faded original blue finish near the hinge with primarily an even dark brown patina. The revarnished stock is very good with only a few minor abrasions and dings. Mechanically excellent. The markings are crisp.
