Description:

The Remington New Model Army was an important revolver during the Civil War and was the second most used after Colt's Model 1860 Army with over 100,000 purchased by the government. The New Model Army also saw use during the Indian Wars that followed and was used by many western legends and the common man alike. This revolver is equipped with the standard pinched blade and frame groove sights. The top barrel flat is stamped "PATENTED SEP. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A/NEW MODEL.". Single letter inspection marks are stamped on most of the components. The matching serial number is found on the lower barrel flat and on the grip strap under the left grip panel which has a inspector's cartouche. The grips are smooth walnut and are hand numbered to the gun with two initial boxed cartouche.

Rating Definition:

Fine with the barrel having primarily a mottled gray-brown patina with a few minor marks. The remaining components retain about 50% of the bright original high polish blue finish with a brown patina on the balance. The cylinder has a distinct drag line. The grips are fine with some chips along the lower edges one of which partially obscures the cartouche. The action is excellent and the primary markings are crisp.
